Reflective Writing 4_The Important of Gender Equality in Education
Reflective Writing 4 _ The Important of Gender Equality in Education
Education
has a very important role in the process of my personal life. Because education
gives me a lot of positives. It can enhance my knowledge, skills, experience,
signaling, and social quality. Besides, there are two types of education in
Indonesia, namely formal and non-formal education. Both have something in
common that emphasizes our abilities and potential. But there are some
differences between formal and non-formal education. In formal education, there
is a special requirement to be learners while in non-formal education sometimes
there is no special requirement. Then formal education learning materials are
academic while non-formal is practical. However, in my opinion, education can
lead us to have a good personal quality, to prevent us from the blind to global
progress, and to have a better life in the future.
In
addition, gender equality has a relation with education. In this context, based
on my view, that means both men and women have the same rights or opportunities
to get the highest education. About three years ago, gender inequality occurred
in Indonesia, particularly to a woman. Several factors that cause gender
inequality in education that harms women are tradition, social-culture,
psychological, and economic. First, this statement is very attached in the
society that women are often perceived as weak and just as complementary figures.
They thought that women were limited to working in the kitchen, take care of their
family and children. So that it causes
many women out there who are lazy in studying, afraid of education, and even at
number two to enter the world of education. Because their mindset has changed,
that a woman does not need a high education due to they will just return to
their nature as a woman or we called as ‘Housewife’. Second, many women who can
not continue their education because of economic problems. So, when at the same
time men and women are not financially capable, they usually put the man ahead
of the woman. The above factors resulted in a woman having a lower education
than a man.
On
the other hand, it is not only happening to women but also men. A man gets
gender inequality also in society. Let me take a sample, for a man who takes
culinary art department. People would assume that they were in the wrong
department. Cooking is a woman’s job and is unfit for a man. Because men
usually prefer the majors to continue their education such as a department of
engineering machinery, department of mining engineering, and department of
petroleum engineering. Matters have been explained cause gender inequality that
occurs in this developing county.
In
conclusion, however, time has grown. And from my point of view, gender equality
is very crucial, particularly in developing countries. When they can get their
rights, they can do and choose what they want in education. They will assume
they are precious, worth, and has potential. Then it can also enhance their
knowledge, skills, experience, signaling, and social quality. This will bring
the positive side and it also benefits the state when they become an A-plus
student. Starting with gender equality in education will provide qualified
human resources for the country.
